Style School

During one of my recent insomnia fuelled social media strolls I decided to sign up for the Fashion Styling: Design Your Looks Course on Domestika. I had seen the ads all over my feed, I had a little money in my Paypal account and the course was on sale. What did I really have to lose?

The course was self-paced which was great for me and though the recorded videos were in Spanish, the course work was in English thank goodness and the captions for the videos were clear. The first couple lessons were about introducing your style and thinking about your influences and inspiration.

The next set of lessons guided us through the wardrobe basics , statement pieces , different style pillars and how to assess and create different looks. Each unit came with course assignments, one of which was about locating your wardrobe basics and creating three (3) looks around them for different occasion. I loved this assignment because I have been doing a “One Piece Three Fits” series on my instagram and being able to wear my clothing in multiple ways is one of the most important parts of my personal style.

The remaining lessons took us through styling techniques for maximising your wardrobe potential, shopping tips , trend watching and one of my favourite things, closet clean outs. As someone who collects clothing but is striving to be a more sustainable consumer, I have to constantly be decluttering my closet to ensure that I am really getting value from my clothing. I have a couple rules such as for every new piece I get I try to remove two from my existing lineup and also making sure that the piece will have a place before even buying it to ensure that I am not buying clothes for buying sake.

The final assignment for the course which I still have yet to create a travel capsule wardrobe for a destination trip. I am actually quite excited about the project because I truly enjoy creating travel capsules. I am still pulling together my inspiration and trying to settle on my dream destination. I’ve also added another layer to the assignment as I will be trying to use pieces I already own in my capsule creation process.

This course has been a great learning experience for me and it’s actually piqued my interest so much so that I have been looking into other online styling courses and just general fashion education.

I will make sure to share my travel capsule here but in the mean time and between time, ensure you are following me over on Instagram as that’s where I post more frequent fashion and style content.

Over and out,
